Since opening in 1975 Henry Wood Hall has been entirely
self-financing. We receive no public subsidy and rely
solely on rental revenue to meet the demands of maintaining
the building. However, if we are to guarantee the future
of the Hall which has served the musicians
community for nearly three decades we need to
undertake a comprehensive programme of renovation.
The interior of the Hall was completely restored when
the Church was converted and is still in immaculate
condition, but the exterior has remained largely untouched.
Due to poorly executed repair-work carried out in the
1950s before our tenancy began, the stonework
of the clock-tower is now in danger of becoming unstable.
To prevent it from deteriorating any further, we have
set up an extensive programme of restoration.
In order for these works to be carried out the building will close in August 2005 for a period of upto 16 weeks. This will also enable us to undertake other necessary works including improved disabled facilities, a new soloist's room and the upgrading of the original plant and machinery.
The total cost of this programme will be £500,000.
An amount such as this is well beyond the scope of our
current resources. A fund-raising appeal launched in
April 2002 realised £138,000 in the first eighteen
months but we are still in urgent need of funds.
